30 BONDING & GROWTH My five-month-old isn't turning over yet, and his cousin, who's the same age, is.
How can I stimulate him to turn over?
  • Don't worry about it. Let them grow at their own speed. Enjoy what they do.
  • Know that your baby is the star in your heart.
  • Babies do things at different rates. Timing is different for each one. Let him play on a blanket on the floor, where he'll have room to stretch and strengthen his muscles.
  • Babies do things in different ways. Some wait a long time and then surprise you by doing a new task very well the first time.
  • Sounds like unhealthy parental competition. Let him be on his own time clock.
  • Don't.   Let your baby roll over when he wants to.
  • Refer to a good book on child development.
  • Read Infants and Mothers, by T. Berry Brazelton. It reports on the development of three different babies.
  • This could be a sign of family competition. Don't act it out through your babies.
